Natural Helpers

Sky Center/Natural Helpers is a peer-helping program situated in four Santa Fe Public schools that is designed to lower the adolescent suicide rate in Santa Fe County and create a caring and supportive community within each school. The program provides intensive training to students who have been identified as “listeners” by their peers and school staff, teaching them to respond effectively when their fellow students experience a wide range of difficulties. These students are trained as leaders who champion kindness and inclusion within their school communities. Training also includes strategies to enable the Natural Helpers to reconnect vulnerable peers to caring adults within the school.
